The Border Peepshows depict scenes of the San Diego/Tijuana border from 1887, 1927, 1967, and 2017, drawing on historic and contemporary photographs of the region to illuminate the shifting story of a once culturally and ecologically connected terrain. A collaborative project between Parkeology, a public art program that excavates histories from urban parks, and The Velaslavasay Panorama, the Peepshows were first displayed in Balboa Park, in the Plaza de Panama, as a public exhibit in June 2017. The Peepshows will be on view during regular open hours (12noon ’til 6pm) at the Velaslavasay Panorama July 28th thru the 30th, 2017. Admission is a suggested donation of $6 ($4 Students & Seniors).

David Trulli (space) MEN IN THE CITIES

David Trulli (space) MEN IN THE CITIES

  • Saturday, July 29, 2017  –  729-5:00- 8:00pm  – ROBERT BERMAN GALLERY  (space)Men in the Cities, Inspired by Robert Longo’s groundbreaking work “Men in the Cities,” David Trulli takes it further out with (space) MEN IN THE CITIES.  “With each passing day we all feel a little more untethered.  No stars or landmarks guide us in our new world” says Trulli, “The stress causes us fits, makes us semi-conscious, or in my case, makes me bounce back and forth between the two.  It’s dizzying.”  Trulli adds: “Many days I’m ready to take the next spaceship out of here.”  David Trulli works in scratchboard: a white clay-coated board, covered with black ink.  Fine knives are used to delicately scrape away the ink, creating the image. A former cinematographer, Trulli compares working in scratchboard to lighting a film set: “it starts out black and you add light.”
