Los Angeles Art Parties, Receptions, Openings, Events – 2018week03 – 180115-180121

ART PARTIES, ART OPENINGS, ART RECEPTIONS, OPEN ART STUDIOS & ART EVENTS in L.A. & SoCAL for 2018
[WEEK 18-02] – 180115-180121 – JanWeek3

https://laartinfo.wordpress.com/2018/01/15/los-angeles-art-parties-receptions-openings-events-2018week03-180115-180121/   or as a shortlink  https://wp.me/p8gGTo-B5

All parties and receptions are free to attend, except when otherwise noted (and we list very few paid events, as we believe that fairness requires paid events should pay to be advertised!). This is the most comprehensive listing in existence, and creating it and checking everything takes about 40 hours a week… In general, the week’s listing is 70-75% complete by Tuesday, and 95+% to 99% complete by Thursday or Friday, but it is constantly updated! Enjoy!

Welcpme to the New Year!    Have a Great and Prosperous Year!

OF INTEREST TO ARTISTS AND THE ART SCENE:   With Microsoft just announced efforts, Mixed Reality “Holograms”, or rather, 3D-Scanning and “Volumetric Capture” are on their way to going (almost) mainstream, and this will have some significant impact on Art and Artists… Read more here:
https://laartinfotechtools.wordpress.com/2017/11/01/holographic-3dscanning-and-volumetric-capture-are-going-mainstream-impact-on-artists/  or as a shortlink  https://wp.me/p9faqX-1B

 LAUNCHING LaartMarket @ LAartInfo

See https://laartinfo.wordpress.com/launching-laartmarket-at-laartinfo/ or as a shortcut  https://wp.me/P8gGTo-za !

The apex of a reflection over Art and Society that stretched 50 years and three continents, Laart Info is the non-profit effort that brings you the totally uncurated and most complete listing of Art Openings, Art Receptions, Art Parties, Open Studios and Art Events in Los Angeles and SoCal, which you can currently find at https://laartinfo.wordpress.com

Over two years ago in 2015, we started a process of systematically attending and documenting Openings and other such events, personally attending over 500 receptions each year. This put us in front of between 10,000 and 20,000 pieces of art freshly put up for sale every year at the very moment they reached the market, for prices stating at two figures and stretching into seven and, with Jeff Koonz, even eight figures. Let’s note here that in an increasingly competitive and globalized world, we are firm believers in the irreplaceable role of Art Galleries and Art Curators.

This is why on December 13, 2017, as our 2017 efforts are coming to fruition and we are getting ready for our “coming out” in 2018, we announced our LaartMarket Project.

Oscar Tuazon -- Live, published by DoPe Press in conjunction with the 2014 exhibition 'Alone In An Empty Room' at Museum Ludwig in Cologne, is the second major book from this American artist. Comprised of two volumes, this artist book/exhibition catalog concentrates on Tuazon's major exhibition of new sculptural works, includes new essays by Phillip Kaiser, Anna Brohm, and Antek Walczak, and photographs of selected works covering Tuazon's unconventional production over the past five years. Tuazon is a Los Angeles artist, inspired by what he calls, "outlaw architecture" and the way in which inhabitation redefines the form of an environment. His work questions the limits of objects and architecture, and redefines the physical experience of a building or space. DM to purchase $45 #oscartuazon

Los Angeles Art Parties, Receptions, Openings, Events – 2018week01 – 180101-180107

ART PARTIES, ART OPENINGS, ART RECEPTIONS, OPEN ART STUDIOS & ART EVENTS in L.A. & SoCAL for 2018
[WEEK 18-01] – 180101-180107 – JanWeek1

https://laartinfo.wordpress.com/2017/12/28/los-angeles-art-parties-receptions-openings-events-2018-january-week1/  or as a shortlink  https://wp.me/p8gGTo-A9

Enjoy!

Welcpme tothe New Year!

POIESIS AND EMPOWERMENT – GATEWAY PAGE

POIESIS AND EMPOWERMENT

GATEWAY PAGE
https://laartinfo.wordpress.com/2017/06/01/featuring-poiesis-and-empowerment-artists-galleries-entrepreneurs-collectors-and-museums-are-creators/ or as a shortlink: http://wp.me/p8gGTo-aY

ARTISTS, GALLERIES, ENTREPRENEURS, COLLECTORS AND MUSEUMS ARE *CREATORS*.

The present series of sites is in construction, with a target of large scale public release in January 2018. The present page will serve as gateway to sub-sites and pages dedicated to specific issues exploring the Philosophy and Praxis of Art, as well as Poiesis-related subjects such as:   Embracing Poiesis. Personal Empowerment. Creativity. Art Making and Making Art. Creating and Making. Interfacing with others (Public Relations, Promotion, Marketing, Social Engineering, etc). Tools for Artistic and Poietic Expression. Old and New Materials and Techniques for Artistic Creation and Art-making. Etc.

As well as, in general, anything relating to Poiesis and Empowerment, such as:

Definition Pages – People very often use words without being really aware of what they are exactly saying, or what the concept they are using truly and really mean.  Such fuzzy thinking can be very disempowering. To the contrary, what is clearly conceived can *help Change the world*. Your own world, to begin with, and the world at large, that we all share.

Examples of Definition Pages:
POIESIS  [POIESIS AND THE ARTIST can be found here:  https://laartinfomindtoolsforartandpoiesis.wordpress.com/2017/08/19/mindtools-poiesis-and-the-artist/  or as a shortlink:  http://wp.me/p8NZi6-17
ENTHUSIASM [This one already exists too at https://laartinfomindtoolsforartandpoiesis.wordpress.com/2017/06/04/mind-tools-channeling-our-higher-selves-ii/  or as a shortlink:  http://wp.me/p8NZi6-z ]
Many more to come, with time…

The Nature of Reality – Many people, indeed, the vast majority of human beings, live in the world of “Maya” – Illusion and Delusion. But the very instant you connect to Poiesis – Magic happens – as *you* attune to your (Higher) Self and the Universe, and so become a co-creator of the “reality” we live in.

And the very fact that *you* are an Artist, a Gallery Owner or Managing Executive, an Entrepreneur [*any* Entrepreneur is actually attuned to Poiesis, but this is of course particularly true for Art-related Entrepreneurs], an Art Collector, a Museum Executive with creative responsibilities,  *you have already taken a step that puts you apart*. This might sound like a bit of New-Age wishful thinking, and perhaps even like tentative exploration of lalaland… But in truth, it is not so! Not at all! The more you would (or will) study and understand Epistemology, Systems Theory, and cutting-edge Physics, the more you will understand that nothing is more REAL than this.

The material world is nothing but a perception, energy vibrating a certain way. Which, in turn, appears to us coagulated as matter, the solid stuff we can touch.  But truth is, “solid matter” is 99.9something % EMPTY SPACE, nothing more than a construct we perceive as we perceive it because we have learned to do so. We assemble it the way we do, and to that extent it is “real”, but we could assemble it differently. Which is in fact what “primitives” do.  Now, precisely, when we embrace Poiesis and become Artists and Creators, we have started a journey into *seeing things differently*. We took the first step toward creating a different world, and exploring different realities. As we *do so*, we begun the process of shackling off the chains woven by the programming of our minds and the”Forces Of Our Lives” and so become able to enter different realms. Doing so, starting the process of slowly remembering who and what we truly are…

However, in the material world, Output is function of Input: YOU ARE WHAT YOU BREATHE, DRINK AND EAT – We interface with this reality through our bodies and our minds, which are just interface tools our true Selves own and animate, and which are themselves the outcome of specific material inputs. Change the input, and you will change the output. Consequently, how we treat Body and Mind is of fundamental importance, even if the idea that all we are is just our body, or, for that matter, our mind, is hilariously ridiculous. So feeble-minded that it is truly mind-boggling that anyone using their brains at all can actually take such an idea seriously. Or, at least, pretend they do, because the agenda they serve compels them to do so.  Truth is, the body is just a piece of hardware, and the mind, a piece of software. To a large extent, social construct created to control us in the first place, and further dulled down by the “Forces Of Our Lives”.

* * * * *

Here are examples of issues for you to explore so to fine-tune “Input” and thus influence or control Output. When we will have the time we will prepare some “Guidance Notes” on these subjects, but in between, nothing forbids you to research them on your own:

“ATTUNING TO POIESIS, EMPOWERMENT and AWARENESS THROUGH CONTROL of our AIR, WATER, and FOOD INPUTS”.

“AWF [Air-Water-Food] QUALITY COMPELS ARTISTIC AND POIETIC OUTPUT”.

“WE ARE SYMBIOTS – The 3 POUNDS OF BACTERIA AND MICROORGANISMS THAT ARE OUR COMMENSALS ARE OUR MOST IMPORTANT ALLIES, SO TREAT THEM WELL = without them your body would be dead in a matter of days”.

“HOW TO EAT RIGHT REJECTING THE OLD FAT AND CHOLESTEROL LIE”.

*****

And here is one of the most insightful and downright brilliant quote we came across so far.  This is clearly someone who “gets it”, graps it, “groks” it:

“Artists need to create on the same scale  that  society has the capacity to destroy.”   – Lauren Bon

Artist, indeed, as some of the main carriers of Poiesis, are the key to respond to Entropy and the most negative aspects of “the Forces Of Our Lives”.

Los Angeles Art Parties, Receptions, Openings, Events – 2018week02 – 180108-180114

ART PARTIES, ART OPENINGS, ART RECEPTIONS, OPEN ART STUDIOS & ART EVENTS in L.A. & SoCAL for 2018
[WEEK 18-02] – 180108-180114 – JanWeek2

https://laartinfo.wordpress.com/2018/01/11/los-angeles-art-parties-receptions-openings-events-2018week02-180108-180114/  or as a shortlink  https://wp.me/p8gGTo-B0

Opening Reception Rodrigo Branco "Moldando Pedra Dura” and Carmen Spera "Tools of the Trade"

Opening Reception Rodrigo Branco “Moldando Pedra Dura” and Carmen Spera “Tools of the Trade”

  • Lois Lambert gallery (map)
Rodrigo Branco “Moldando Pedra Dura”  Rodrigo Branco has gained a reputation throughout Brazil for the eclectic and colorful compositions of his murals. The paintings in this exhibit will continue that aesthetic. In this series of paintings, Rodrigo explores his own life’s narrative through the discovery of a box of family photographs which his father had saved throughout his lifetime.
Artist Carmen Spera “Tools of the Trade”   This series of hyper-realistic glass sculptures is based on the tools that Spera uses every day. The work plays with the idea of magic and illusion by taking these items out of their typical context.

Los Angeles Art Parties – 2017week52 – 171225-171231

ART PARTIES & ART EVENTS IN L.A. and SoCAL for 2017
[WEEK 17-52] – 171225-171231 – DecWeek5

https://laartinfo.wordpress.com/2017/12/23/los-angeles-art-parties-2017week52-171225-171231/  or as a shortlink  https://wp.me/p8gGTo-A1

Enjoy!

Needess to say, Week17-52 has very little going on for Art Openings, Receptions and Parties… 😉   Happy Holidays to All!

Emma McMillan: “Live Burial”. [Interesting and Unusual! : Throughout the Gothic period and the Renaissance, the art of stained glass painting was one of the most prominent methods of image making. The technique of painting glass comprised a process of additive and reductive methods. In many windows, vitreous paint, a mixture of glass particles and adhesive liquid, was applied to the interior side of the glass while layers of silver stain were applied to the surface that would eventually face the outside. During the firing process the silver stain would turn a yellow color that would range in hue from lemon to gold. The vitreous layers would be partially ground away or carved into, exposing the silver stain on the exterior side and adding a sense of three dimensionality. This unique method of delineation was enhanced by a direct engagement with the fluctuation of natural light to form a determining element of the figuration and narrative. The colors and density were influenced by the time of day, weather conditions and season.

WHAT’S THE ARTWALK?

THE MONTHLY DOWNTOWN ART WALK happens EVERY 2ND THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH

Downtown celebrates the arts on the 2nd Thursday of each month, year-round, rain or shine. Most of the Downtown Art Walk activities take shape in and around the galleries predominantly along Spring and Main streets, between 2nd and 9th streets. However, there is a plethora of art-related events and openings, activities, and special programming taking place all over Downtown. We suggest you start your Art Walk at the Art Walk Lounge, located at 634 S. Spring St. from 6 to 10pm each Art Walk. For the true art collectors and fans, arriving early offers a more relaxing stroll through galleries and art exhibitions.

Here  is the list of all participating galleries with links to each of them:

THE MONTHLY ART WALK happens EVERY 2ND THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH

Map: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Art+Walk+DTLA/@34.0483567,-118.2485051,18z/

A special page with links to all participating galleries can be found here:

Opening Reception: SKIN, PST LA/LA

  • bG Gallery G8A  (map)

bG Gallery invites you to SKIN,  a PST LA/LA Exhibit.   Dialoguing installations by artists Marisa Caichiolo and  Melissa Meier.     While coming from different backgrounds, these two artists have individually developed bodies of work entitled SKIN that use photography and installation to explore the complex relationship between fashion and female empowerment. Both artists mix sculpture, photography, clothing into their installation. Though the mediums and subject matter is similar, each body of work is distinct, as seen from two very unique perspectives.

Enjoy!
