ABOUT SFAC:

The Santa Fe Art Colony is a live / work studio complex in downtown Los Angeles whose residents are professional artists making, teaching and promoting art in the region and the world. The annual open studios have been run by residents of the art colony since 1988. The original brick portion of the Santa Fe Art Colony was built in 1906 by entrepreneur C.B. Van Vorst, and was used as a mattress factory until the 1940’s. In 1988 the complex was renovated and developed into artists’ lofts by a group of partners.

“A hidden neighborhood located on the outskirts of Los Angeles. Some have the pleasure to visit and collaborate with fellow artist’s at one of the spaces in the colony. Fifty-Seven in total, it’s private, quiet, a place to get work done.”

Here is a  slideshow showing of one piece for each participating artist:

Here is their official announcement:

Maiden LA Event at Santa Fe Art Colony [SFAC] – Upcoming Studio Walk-Thru Date. Saturday, August 5th Noon to 5 pm

The Santa Fe Art Colony in Downtown LA is a hidden gem, a true enclave of art and creativity nestled in a bustling industrial area. While many people are familiar with the art galleries located between high end salons and boutiques on the Westside, few people are familiar with the unique creative spaces that artists live and work in.  SFAC is thrilled to announce our upcoming event in conjunction with Maiden LA

Maiden LA is an inclusive and expansive county-wide survey of art happenings that in encouraging the use of alternative spaces, considers the city as a platform for generative discourse and exchange. Maiden LA is an egalitarian program aiming to dissolve hierarchies by including artists, collectives, curators, galleries, museums, et cetera. Maiden LA‘s relevance is amplified in today’s political climate, as our ethos is one that eschews corporate backing and is accessible to artists who find it

POIESIS AND EMPOWERMENT – GATEWAY PAGE

POIESIS AND EMPOWERMENT

GATEWAY PAGE

ARTISTS, GALLERIES, ENTREPRENEURS, COLLECTORS AND MUSEUMS ARE *CREATORS*.

The present page will serve as gateway to pages dedicated to specific issues exploring the Philosophy and Prax-is of Art and Poiesis-related subjects such as:   Embracing Poiesis. Personal Empowerment. Creativity. Art Making and Making Art. Creating and Making. Interfacing with others (Public Relations, Promotion, Marketing, Social Engineering, etc).

And in general, anything relating to Poiesis and Empowerment, such as:

Definition Pages – People very often use words without being really aware of what they are exactly saying, or what the concept they are using really mean.  This is very disempowering.

Examples of Definition Pages:   POIESIS    ENTHOUSIASM [This one already exists at https://laartinfomindtoolsforartandpoiesis.wordpress.com/2017/06/04/mind-tools-channeling-our-higher-selves-ii/ ]

The Nature of Reality – Many people, indeed, the vast majority of human beings, live in the world of “Maya” – Illusion and Delusion. But the very instant you connect to Poiesis – Magic happens – as *you* attune to the Universe, and become a co-creator of this world.

And the very fact that *you* are an Artist, a Gallery Owner or Managing Executive, an Entrepreneur [*any* Entrepreneur, but particularly an Art-related Entrepreneur], an Art Collector, a Museum Executive with creative responsibilities,  *you have already taken a step that puts you apart*. This might sound as New-Age wishful thinking, and like an exploration of lalaland. Not so! Not at all! The more you would (or will) study and understand Epistemology, Systems Theory, and cutting-edge Physics, the more you will understand that nothing is more REAL than this.

The material world is nothing but a perception, energy vibrating a certain way. That in turn, appears to us coagulated as matter.  But truth is, it’s nothing more than a construct we perceive as we perceive it because we have learned to do so. We assemble it the way we do, and to that extent it is “real”, but we could assemble it differently.  Now, precisely, when we embrace Poiesis and become Artists and Creators, we have started a journey into *seeing things differently*. We took the first step toward creating a different world, and exploring different realities. As we *do so*, we begun the process of shackling off the chains woven by the programming of our minds and the”Forces Of Our Lives” and become able to enter different realms. In the process of slowly remembering who and what we truly are…

Output is function of Input: YOU ARE WHAT YOU BREATHE, DRINK AND EAT – We interface with this reality through our bodies and our minds, themselves the outcome of specific inputs. Change the input, and you will change the output. Consequently, how we treat Body and Mind is of fundamental importance, even if the idea that all we are is just our body, or, for that matter, our mind, is hilariously ridiculous. So feeble-minded that it is truly mind-boggling that anyone using their brains at all can actually take such an idea seriously. Or, at least, pretend they do, because the agenda they serve compels them to do so.  Truth is, the body is just a piece of hardware, and the mind, a piece of software. A social construct created to control us in the first place, and further dulled down by the Forces Of Our Lives.

Examples of exploring and fine-tuning Input:    ATTUNING TO POIESIS, EMPOWERMENT and AWARENESS THROUGH CONTROL of our AIR, WATER, and FOOD INPUTS.   AWF QUALITY.       WE ARE SYMBIOTS – The 3 POUNDS OF BACTERIA AND MICROORGANISMS THAT ARE OUR COMMENSALS ARE OUR MOST IMPORTANT ALLIES, SO TREAT THEM WELL = without them your body would be dead in a matter of days.    THE FAT AND CHOLESTEROL LIE.

OK, we are not sure that this should be listed here, as our philosophy is simple: Free events should be advertized for free, but paid events should only be advertized only IF they PAY for it, and this one did not. But, considering their apparent lofty goals, let’s give them the benefit of the doubt…

We Choose Art's photo.
“RAINBOW SHIFT 3.0.” Curated by Baha H. Danesh and Tiger Munson, this exhibition was created to fuse art with social justice and explore notions of aspiration, socialization, etc. Featuring: Diane Williams, Edie Xu, Erica Soto, Greg Orloff, Lena Moross, Leonard D. Greco, Matthew Dean Stewart, Miguel Angel Reyes, Monica Orozco, Oskar Laffantl, Ruben Esparza, and more.

ART PARTIES & ART EVENTS IN L.A. for 2017

[WEEK 17-31]  Jul 31 – Aug 06 * AugustWeek1

https://laartinfo.wordpress.com/2017/07/30/arts-parties-los-angeles-week1731-0731-0806-augustweek1/ or as a shortlink  http://wp.me/p8gGTo-ib

All parties and receptions are free to attend, except when otherwise noted (and we list very few paid events, as we believe that fairness requires paid events should pay to be advertised!). This is the most comprehensive listing in existence, and creating it and checking everything takes about 40 hours a week… In general, the week’s listing is 70-75% complete by Tuesday, and 95+% to 99% complete by Thursday or Friday, but it is constantly updated!  Enjoy!

ART and COMMUNITY – GATEWAY PAGE

This is the Gateway Page for the “Art and Community” sub-site, with links to various entries and pages.

What’s a “Synergy Project”?

It’s “a project that is not essential to what we are doing, but could prove very helpful in one way or another”. These projects can be purely not-for-profit, purely for profit, or a combination of the two. They can be direct projects; joint ventures with the public, NGO or private sectors; or indirect projects, where we provide the ideas and the initial impetus, some sort of on-going supervision or even oversight, but do not directly participate in their management. How these projects are created and managed does not matter, as long as they are useful, and part of a joint effort to advance what we stand for: Service to the Arts, the Art Community, and to the Purpose.

For example a page currently contemplated but not yet really worked on is “VR ART”, that is, “ART and VIRTUAL REALITY”.
